Meet Dr. Matthew Kwong

Your dentist, Dr. Matthew Kwong, is a true Houstonian, born and raised. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of New England in Portland, Maine. During dental school, Dr. Matthew showed an early talent for operative dentistry earning his graduating class’s Clinical Excellence Award.

After graduating, Dr. Matthew made the move from the US-Canadian border all the way to the US-Mexico border to start his career in the Rio Grande Valley. In the Valley, Dr. Matthew honed his skills in all areas of dentistry under the guidance of 6 amazing mentor dentists. At times his experience was boot-camp like, but he quickly gained clinical confidence & knowledge laying the high standard foundations of how he practices dentistry today. During his time in the Valley, Dr. Matthew also gained an appreciation for Mexican culture and food and met his life partner.

Dr. Matthew ultimately decided to move back home to Houston and worked as an associate dentist for a few more years. Established 2026, Dr. Matthew built Thriving Smiles Dental from the ground up with the mission of empowering all his patients to achieve a healthy, confident smile through gentle, compassionate care. He strives to create a warm and supportive environment where everyone feels valued, heard and respected. He is constantly learning and continues to strive for clinical excellence by taking hundreds of hours of CE courses covering all areas of dentistry.

During his free time, Dr. Matthew enjoys working out, cooking, exploring the outdoors and cheering on the Rockets.
